My mom likes to say, “If she doesn’t have a ’90s tattoo choker or one of her cameras, something is wrong.” She’s not wrong. I’ve had a camera in my hands for as long as I can remember. What started with disposable cameras as a kid became the way I pay attention to the world around me. I photograph everyday life—family, motherhood, strangers, Detroit, and the small moments happening in between. I’m drawn to the things we usually overlook: a hand being held, someone sitting alone, light coming through a window, or an ordinary afternoon that might mean more years from now. I’m less interested in making everything perfect and more interested in making photographs that feel like something. Because the ordinary doesn’t stay ordinary forever.
