Hi there! My name is Robert Jones. I'm a professional photographer based in Austin, Texas, but more often than not I'm on the road exploring new states, National Parks, and hidden corners of the country. Inspired by old National Geographic magazines and documentaries, I picked up my mom's Nikon N5005 35mm film camera at age 11 and started seeing the world through a viewfinder for the first time. At age 18, after saving enough money for my first Canon DSLR, I cut my teeth as a professional photographer by freelancing for my hometown newspaper. Today, I'm an awarding-winning photographer with 20 years of experience in commercial shoots, editorial and travel assignments, portraiture, event photography and more. As you can see from my work, I have a passion for the outdoors and travel. Whether it's trail running on the Barton Creek Greenbelt here in Austin, fly fishing for tarpon in Puerto Rico, or exploring National Park, the time I spend outside the office is almost always spent outside.

About these images

Spring and Fall are my absolute favorite times of year in Texas. Our Fall colors are highly underrated, but our Spring wildflowers (like the iconic Bluebonnet) are absolutely legendary. I love the way Kodak film especially (in this case Ektar 100, Gold 200, and ColorPlus 200) renders the pops of color in bright Texas sunlight.

Why I shoot film

I do most of my professional work on digital for a variety of reasons, but my heart will always belong to 35mm film. Aside from the look and feel of film images, there's something magical about the process of loading, winding, shooting, developing and scanning film.
