Ruben Colon Velazquez

Lakeland, FL · Featured since Mar 2026

My name is Ruben, and I currently live in Florida with my husband, five dogs, and two cats (It's as beautifully chaotic as it sounds!). I work remotely for the company that makes Oreos, and I use film photography as a way to express and unleash my innate creativity. It is said when a millennial turns 30, they choose a hobby that will define them for the next phase of their life, and film photography sounded more fun than running in marathons or starting pilates.

About this set

These pictures were taken on a sunny Saturday afternoon at a small town in Central Florida called Mount Dora. This was my first time shooting Ektra 100 film, and I wanted to find an area that would allow me to capture bold and beautiful colors. It was also a perfect excuse to take my husband on a date!

Why I shoot film

I shoot film purely for escapism. As a history aficionado, there's a timelessness associated to film photography I am really drawn to. I also love the rush of not knowing how your pictures come out until you bring your roll to your favorite film lab, and then anxiously wait for the results!
